Techupdate McAfee | End of Support for Older Windows Versions

McAfee has announced End of Support for a whole range of older Windows versions starting on 31 December 2021. Unfortunately, this also means that downloading updates (DAT files, amcore files, etc.) is considered a breach of licence if extended support is not purchased from McAfee.

Windows XP, Server 2003

These operating systems are only compatible with VSE.

IMPORTANT: Any further use of V2 DAT, IPS Signatures, and Engine content or Technical Support beyond December 31, 2021, without an Extended Support agreement is a violation of your license and is subject to audit by the McAfee Enterprise Licensing and Compliance team. Customers choosing to use VSE or Host IPS beyond its EOL without Extended Support are required to maintain VSE/Host IPS with its final content update as of December 31, 2021.

Windows 7, Server 2008, Server 2008R2

How to purchase extended support after December 31, 2021
Beginning in January 2022, customers who want to use the above products on Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 must purchase extended support to continue receiving Technical Support and content updates for these products. Contact your account manager for more details about this option.

Actions to be taken

As these devices are no longer supported by either Microsoft or McAfee, they should be considered as a serious security risk. If replacement is not possible for practical reasons, these devices should be isolated from the rest of your network and from the Internet and should not be internet-facing under any circumstances. Implementation of Application Control on these devices is also recommended.
